🔧🚐 THE SMALLEST FAULTS CAN CAUSE THE BIGGEST HEADACHES! 💪

Another interesting diagnostic job through the workshop at Active Hydraulics & Mechanical!

This diesel engine had us investigating its EGR and vacuum control system, where even a small leak can create major performance problems.

Rather than throwing parts at the problem, we got stuck into some proper fault-finding! 🔍

🔧 Our diagnostic process included:

✅ Inspecting the EGR system and associated components
✅ Checking vacuum hoses and connections
✅ Using specialist smoke-testing equipment to investigate potential leaks
✅ Identifying damaged hose sections requiring attention
✅ Working through the system to narrow down the source of the fault

💨 Why does it matter?

A small vacuum leak can interfere with engine control systems and potentially contribute to poor performance, fault codes and inconsistent engine operation.

Another Ford through the workshop at Active Hydraulics & Mechanical, and this one is a great example of why regular servicing and thorough inspections matter!

🛢️ Heavy oil sludge and contamination – Thick deposits inside the oil filter housing highlight why regular oil changes and correct maintenance are so important.

🌬️ Cabin filter well overdue! – Packed with dust, leaves and debris. A blocked cabin filter can restrict airflow and affect your air conditioning performance.

🔩 Engine air filter inspection – Comparing old and new filters shows just how much dirt your engine’s filtration system can collect.

🔍 Underbody inspection – Checking suspension, steering and other critical components for wear, damage and potential safety concerns.

❄️🔧 AIR CONDITIONING NOT COOLING? WE FIND THE PROBLEM!

Another interesting A/C diagnostic job completed at Active Hydraulics & Mechanical! 💪

This Ford Everest came into our workshop with an air-conditioning system that wasn’t doing its job.

With a temperature reading of 34.4°C, something clearly wasn’t right! 🥵

Rather than simply regassing the system and sending the vehicle on its way, we got to work finding the actual problem.

Using our specialised 95% nitrogen / 5% hydrogen forming gas and electronic hydrogen leak detection equipment, we were able to trace the leak through the vehicle’s interior air vents, pointing towards a leaking evaporator within the dashboard.

🔍 Why is this important?

Some refrigerant leaks are extremely difficult to locate, particularly when they’re hidden deep inside the dashboard.

Our specialised leak detection equipment allows us to investigate these hard-to-reach areas without immediately pulling the entire dashboard apart.

This Caterpillar C4.4 diesel engine required some mechanical repairs and attention to its valve train.

This 2013 Toyota LandCruiser 79 Series V8 diesel was in the workshop for a clutch replacement.

With the gearbox removed, we found significant heat marking and wear on the original flywheel.

Out with the old and in with the new! 🔥

🔧 Sometimes it’s the simple things that cause the biggest mess!

Mobile call-out to this Kubota tracked loader after a significant oil leak was reported.

After inspecting the machine, we traced the problem back to a loose engine oil filter, which had allowed engine oil to escape and cover the surrounding components.

A new OEM oil filter was fitted, engine oil level corrected and the machine checked over before returning it to service. ✅

Not every breakdown needs to turn into a major repair — finding the actual cause first is what matters.

🚐 Sprinter round two!

Another Mercedes-Benz Sprinter through the doors at Active Hydraulics & Mechanical — this time for air-conditioning repairs. ❄️🔧

Commercial vans don’t get an easy life, and when the A/C gives up in a WA summer, you definitely know about it.

With the Sprinter up on our 6.5-tonne four-post hoist, we were able to get straight into the A/C system and carry out the required repairs.

From everyday vehicles through to large vans, fleet vehicles, heavy diesel and hydraulics, we’ve got the workshop and equipment to handle the bigger jobs too.
