⚡ Sometimes the fault is right there in front of you…

This Holden came in with an engine running fault.

After some fault finding we traced the issue back to a failed ignition coil pack.

Once removed, the cause became pretty clear — water had made its way into the electrical connection, causing corrosion and eventually a dead short.

New coil pack fitted, spark plugs replaced and the fault rectified. ✅

This is exactly why we diagnose faults rather than just throwing parts at them.

From a simple misfire through to those frustrating intermittent electrical problems, we can test it, find it and fix it.

Not just your standard service 👌

Another VW Crafter through the workshop, this one getting some preventative maintenance sorted before it turns into a much bigger bill.

Timing belt and water pump replacement underway, cooling system drained and renewed, followed up with a full check over.

Timing belts are one of those jobs you really don’t want to stretch past their interval. A few hundred dollars saved by putting it off can very quickly turn into an engine.

This is why hydraulic hoses are worth checking BEFORE they let go 👀

This little Kubota came into the workshop for some hydraulic attention, and the photos pretty much tell the story.

The old hoses had definitely done their time.

We made up and replaced the hydraulic hoses in-house, added spiral wrap for extra protection, then gave the hydraulic system a full flush and fitted a new filter.

Fresh oil, fresh filtration, new hoses and everything cleaned up and protected ready to go back to work. 👌

A bit of love for this old girl 👌

This 1HD-FT LandCruiser came through the workshop for some attention.

Once we got into it, there was plenty of carbon build-up through the intake — pretty common to see on diesels of this age.

Intake stripped down and cleaned, injectors removed and replaced along with new seals, everything checked over and put back together properly.

These older Cruisers are getting harder to find in good condition, and they’re definitely worth looking after.

Whether it’s an old-school diesel, your daily driver or the work ute — we’re happy to get stuck into it.

Well… that bearing wasn’t coming off nicely 😂

This trailer came in with a wheel bearing that had well and truly called it quits.

By the time we pulled it apart, the bearing had completely collapsed and the inner race had picked up on the stub axle — leaving us with a bit more work than your average bearing replacement.

Trailer wheel bearings are one of those things that are easy to forget about… right up until you’re sitting on the side of the road with a wheel that doesn’t want to be there anymore.

If your trailer, boat trailer or work trailer hasn’t had its bearings checked in a while, it might be worth getting onto them before they look like this.

⚡ CRANKS BUT WON’T START — SOMETIMES THE PROBLEM ISN’T THE FUEL PUMP.

This Subaru had us out for a mobile no-start diagnosis.

The engine would crank but wouldn’t fire, pointing us towards a fuel supply issue. Rather than just fitting a fuel pump and hoping for the best, we worked through the system to find out why the pump wasn’t operating.

Once we accessed the fuel pump, the problem became pretty obvious.

🔥 Burnt electrical terminal at the fuel pump connection.

The photos tell the story — the terminal had overheated badly enough to damage the connector and pin, causing a poor electrical connection to the pump.

This is exactly why proper fault finding matters.

A crank/no-start doesn’t automatically mean:
❌ Bad fuel pump
❌ Bad starter
❌ Bad battery
❌ “Must be the computer”

Sometimes one damaged electrical connection is enough to leave the whole car sitting in the driveway.

And because not every broken-down vehicle can make it into the workshop, we can come to you for mobile diagnostics and mechanical repairs where practical.

🔧 A LITTLE OIL LEAK CAN MAKE A BIG MESS

Another one through AHM this week for an engine oil leak.

Tracked this one back to the rocker cover gasket, so off came the intake and rocker cover to get access and repair it properly.

While we’re in there, everything gets inspected, sealing surfaces cleaned and the job put back together properly — not just degreased and sent back out the door.

Oil leaks are one of those things that are easy to keep putting off. A small weep today can turn into oil all over the engine, burning smells, smoke, damaged hoses and belts, or a much bigger repair bill down the track.

WHAT DO WE DO WHEN WE’RE NOT TURNING SPANNERS?

Usually… find somewhere a bit more difficult to turn them. 😂

Dirt bikes and adventure riding have always been a big part of life outside the workshop.

From jungle riding through Vietnam, to following the Mekong through Laos, getting off the beaten track and seeing places you’d never find from the back seat of a tour bus.

And when you’re riding through the middle of nowhere overseas, you quickly learn that mechanical problems don’t care how far you are from the nearest workshop.

Broken bikes, running repairs, whatever tools you can find and figuring out how to get moving again — bush mechanics, international edition. 🔧😂

There’s something pretty bloody good about a dirt bike, a few mates and having absolutely no idea what’s around the next corner.

These days there’s a lot more time spent turning spanners at AHM, but when we get the chance to switch off, two wheels and a dirt track is still pretty hard to beat.
