Image 1 & 2: The Makulu 1965 Alfa Guilia started its rally/racing career in 2001.

It has competed in numerous rally and race events all over Australia.

It has participated in the 3 Peaks rally, The Clipsal Tour of Adelaide.

Targa High Country and many Targa Tasmania events winning the early classics in 2005,2006 and 2007.

It has been the official Targa Classica pace car since inception in 2014.

In 2025 British couple Sam and Sophie Fretwell were invited to drive the Alfa in the Targa Tasmania tour.

At the two race track stages of the event, the Alfa outperformed everything in its group including much more modern vehicles.

Image 1: In November 2024, Makulu was invited to participate in the Hainan Open International Classic Car Rally of China.

Two makulu cars were accepted for the event.
Our legendary 1965 Alfa Romeo Guilia and our 1986 BMW E30 Msport.

The Alfa was driven by Clive Massel with Matt Thewlis as navigator and the E30 by Chris Ralph with a Chinese navigator.

The Alfa competed in the premier class of pre 1973 vehicles and achieved 3rd place overall out of 80 international entrants.

The BMW came 6th overall in the modern category. The podium placing for the Alfa has added to its substantial list of victories including Targa Tasmania.

In 2023 we successfully placed our magnificent red 1973 Alfa Romeo Guilia Retro with Trading Garage and the car was acquired by a Hong Kong buyer.

This car was upgraded to more modern specs with a 2-litre engine, Ls diff and upgraded brakes. The suspension and wheels were changed by Alfaholics, and the car looked very impressive.
The car was bought sight unseen, but we did assist the bidder by describing the car as accurately as possible.

Exporting the car to Hong Kong was not without its challenges, but in true Makulu tradition we took on this administrative nightmare on behalf of the new owner. Before loading the car for shipment, Makulu did a full detailing of the car and coated the car in several layers of high-quality wax. Pending its arrival in Hong Kong the new owner Mr. Bob Yu submitted his car for acceptance at an invitation only motor show.

Within three days of its arrival, our Alfa was given a wash down and then to the show.

It then went on to win Best Saloon Car - Clearwater Bay car Show  Hong Kong 2023!

Bob Yu was ecstatic with this win and totally overwhelmed as to the lengths Makulu went to assist with the shipping and exporting of this beautiful car.

Celebrating 15 Years of Makulu Vehicle Storage 🏁

What began with Clive Massel’s passion for cars and a vision for a different kind of vehicle storage has grown into a community built around a shared love of cars.

To mark 15 years of Makulu Vehicle Storage, we welcomed over 100 customers, friends and suppliers for an evening of great company, stories and, of course, plenty of cars.

The evening featured a special 15-year anniversary video presentation, along with awards recognising the customers, friends and suppliers who have supported Makulu over the years.
A huge thank you to everyone who has been part of the Makulu story over the past 15 years.

Here’s to the next chapter. 🏁
