The Hyundai i30 N is far more than a sporty version of the i30. It is the product of Hyundai’s dedicated N performance division, created to bring genuine motorsport-inspired engineering and driving excitement to an everyday road car.
The N story began with Hyundai’s commitment to high-performance engineering and motorsport, with the letter “N” representing Namyang, Hyundai’s global R&D centre, and Nürburgring, where Hyundai’s performance vehicles were extensively developed and tested. The original i30 N became Hyundai’s first true high-performance production car and established the foundation for the N range.
206kW of Turbocharged Performance
At the heart of the MY26 i30 N is a 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine, producing an impressive 206kW of power and 392Nm of torque.
That translates to a 0–100km/h time of just 5.3 seconds, making the i30 N seriously quick while retaining the practicality of a five-door hatchback.
The engine uses Hyundai’s Flat Power tuning, designed to deliver strong, consistent performance across a broad rev range rather than concentrating its power in a narrow part of the rev band. Maximum torque is available from approximately 1,950–4,600rpm, helping the i30 N feel responsive both around town and when pushed hard.
Performance Hardware
The i30 N has been engineered around performance rather than simply styled to look sporty.
It features Electronically Controlled Suspension, allowing the suspension characteristics to be adjusted according to the selected driving mode, while the high-performance braking system uses large 360mm front discs with distinctive N brake callipers for strong stopping power and resistance to brake fade.
The result is a car designed to deliver sharp turn-in, strong body control and impressive cornering ability without sacrificing the usability expected from an everyday hatchback.
N Performance Modes
The i30 N also brings genuine performance technology normally associated with much more expensive sports cars.
On DCT models, N Grin Shift temporarily increases output from 206kW to 213kW for up to 20 seconds, delivering an extra burst of acceleration. N Power Shift is designed to maximise acceleration during hard upshifts, while N Track Sense Shift selects shift patterns suited to enthusiastic driving and track conditions.
An active variable exhaust adds another layer to the experience, allowing the exhaust character to change with the selected driving mode — quieter and more refined when required, or much more aggressive when the N mode is activated.
Motorsport-Inspired Design
The aggressive exterior isn’t simply about appearance. The i30 N’s design has been developed around its performance character, featuring a distinctive N front end, side skirts, performance-focused wheels, rear diffuser and large rear spoiler.
Inside, the driver-focused cabin features N-specific instrumentation, sports seats and Performance Blue detailing, creating an environment that feels purpose-built for enthusiastic driving while remaining comfortable enough for everyday use.
