2025 Winner Best Workhorse at Mr Landcruiser Classic LandCruiser Exhibition

Let’s take a deeper look at Dads 1962 Toyota FQ15. 🇯🇵🛻

The FQ15 is one of Toyota’s early heavy-duty trucks, built during a time when function came before comfort. Designed as a 3/4-ton 4x4 utility truck, it shared much of its DNA with the early Land Cruisers. Under the hood sits Toyota’s iconic F-series inline 6-cylinder engine, a cast-iron powerhouse known for its low-end torque and incredible reliability — the same engine family that helped make the Land Cruiser legendary.

For collectors and enthusiasts, an FQ15 represents a missing link in Toyota’s history — a bridge between early commercial trucks and the iconic Land Cruisers that followed. It’s not just a truck; it’s a piece of Toyota’s global story, built to last and still standing strong over 60 years later.

These trucks were built tough, featuring solid axles, manual gearboxes, and long-wheelbase steel frames suited for hauling and hard work. Most were used in demanding environments — military, agricultural, or industrial — and few survived intact.

What makes this FQ15 so remarkable is its rarity in Australia. Only a small number were ever imported, and even fewer are known to exist today. Most have long since disappeared or been repurposed for parts, making a complete survivor like this almost unheard of.

Stay tuned as we share more about this incredible machine and the restoration journey that’s preserving a rare piece of Toyota heritage.

Let’s take a moment to appreciate a true icon — Dad’s 1984 Toyota BJ42 LX Land Cruiser.

The BJ42 represents the final chapter of the classic 40 Series, and the LX trim was as good as it got back then — a perfect mix of rugged off-road ability and a few well-earned creature comforts. Under the bonnet is the bulletproof 3B diesel engine, famous for its reliability and torque, ready to crawl up mountains or cruise the coastline without breaking a sweat.

This one’s been in Dad’s hands for years and carries that unique mix of pride, history, and hard-earned character that only a Land Cruiser can. From its simple dash to its unmistakable stance, the BJ42 LX is a reminder of a time when vehicles were built to last a lifetime — and this one still does.

Here’s to the classics that shaped our love for the Land Cruiser and to the stories they keep rolling on with every kilometre.

Something a little different…

Not quite a 40series but some say the grandad of them all!
Here’s Dad’s ’62 Toyota FQ15 Truck – rescued from a scrapyard in QLD a few years back with no running gear.

After some serious work, Dad managed to get it back together as original as possible:
🟡 Runs a 135 petrol (early “F” series engine, same as early 40s)
🟡 4-speed box (same as an FC truck) with a remote transfer case
🟡 20-inch split rims (copied from the Dodge M37)
🟡 Banjo-style axles & 24V electrics
🟡 Built as both 4x4 and 6x6 – only a handful ever made it to Australia

Production only ran from the late 1950s to early 1960s, with around 51,000 built worldwide. They were based heavily on the Dodge M37, and we think this one may have come over from Timor in the 70s.

A super rare old workhorse – and pretty cool to still have it rolling today 🙌
