2025 Winner Best Workhorse at Mr Landcruiser Classic LandCruiser Exhibition
Let’s take a deeper look at Dads 1962 Toyota FQ15. 🇯🇵🛻
The FQ15 is one of Toyota’s early heavy-duty trucks, built during a time when function came before comfort. Designed as a 3/4-ton 4x4 utility truck, it shared much of its DNA with the early Land Cruisers. Under the hood sits Toyota’s iconic F-series inline 6-cylinder engine, a cast-iron powerhouse known for its low-end torque and incredible reliability — the same engine family that helped make the Land Cruiser legendary.
For collectors and enthusiasts, an FQ15 represents a missing link in Toyota’s history — a bridge between early commercial trucks and the iconic Land Cruisers that followed. It’s not just a truck; it’s a piece of Toyota’s global story, built to last and still standing strong over 60 years later.
These trucks were built tough, featuring solid axles, manual gearboxes, and long-wheelbase steel frames suited for hauling and hard work. Most were used in demanding environments — military, agricultural, or industrial — and few survived intact.
What makes this FQ15 so remarkable is its rarity in Australia. Only a small number were ever imported, and even fewer are known to exist today. Most have long since disappeared or been repurposed for parts, making a complete survivor like this almost unheard of.
Stay tuned as we share more about this incredible machine and the restoration journey that’s preserving a rare piece of Toyota heritage.
