🚗 NSW Road Rule Reminder: Keep Left Unless Overtaking 🛣️

Someone recently asked for a post about the legislation around “Keep Left Unless Overtaking” — so here it is!

In NSW, Road Rule 130 of the Road Rules 2014 makes it clear:
👉 On multi-lane roads with a speed limit over 80 km/h, drivers must keep left unless:

- You're overtaking
- You're turning right or making a U-turn
- You're avoiding an obstruction
- Traffic is congested
- You're in a special purpose lane you're allowed to use
- You're passing a stationary emergency vehicle with flashing lights
- The left lane is a “left turn only” lane and you're not turning left

📍 If a “Keep Left Unless Overtaking” sign is posted, the rule applies regardless of the speed limit.

💸 Penalty: Failing to comply can result in a fine of up to $325 and 2 demerit points.

This rule helps keep traffic flowing smoothly and safely — especially on highways. So next time you're cruising in the right lane, ask yourself: Am I overtaking? If not, it's time to move left.
