This week my panel be**er just completed an E30 Getrag 240 5-speed overdrive conversion for a customer’s ‘02 squarie resto. I had a 3D print version of the gearbox made up, which helped him greatly with sorting out clearance issues & final position, without the headache (& backache!) of lugging a 28kg gearbox up & down many times.
This 3D gearbox can be bolted onto the engine; has the input shaft pilot spindle for centering, plus rear mount slots & posts for the slave cylinder, just like the real thing.
For anyone wanting to do the Getrag 240 conversion, this 3D gearbox is available for hire if you need it. Eventually I’ll have a Getrag 245 3D gearbox produced as well.
Not quite ready for this particular conversion was a 3D printed output fl**ge, set on a steel shaft with bearings so it can rotate. This would allow the guibo & tailshaft to be test-fitted as well. This time around, we used a hollow steel rod in place of the tailshaft. Supporting the gearbox is an aftermarket cross-member from the U.S.
A big thanks to Damian Ross-Jarry at Olde Auto Revival (Ipswich, Qld) for his excellent workmanship with the fabrication & paint.
