Really enjoyed sorting out Jeremiah's yzf for him. Came needing fork seals, front pads and valves looked at. Inlets were on the bottom end of "in spec" so I repositioned 1 intake shim into a better spot, and replaced it with the right size for the other side to put the clearances squarely in the middle of factory settings. Jerry keeps his oils fresh and the air filter spotless, so the internals and intake looked very clean and healthy.
These forks have an inner and outer chamber and we're fairly sure over 60 hours were on them. So I didn't only replace the seals and refill the outer chamber, but replaced the cartridge oil also. Fork oil works really hard, getting smashed through tiny orifices as it dampens the action of the springs. It's worth refreshing while you're in there. The difference in feel was immediately noticeable.
I noticed very quickly upon raising the front end that the head bearings felt terrible. Fortunately, my mate Danny had them in town and we got the headset replaced and thoroughly greased.
Also did you know most manufacturers recommend replacing brake fluid every 2 years? It's quick and easy so we know that's up to date now.
Turned out the starting and rough idle issue was related to a poorly adjusted idle. Love a simple fix!
