This classic Datsun 1200 Ute recently rolled into the workshop for what we like to call a restoration-based detail.
Having remained with the same owner for over 40 years, this little Datsun has plenty of stories to tell and holds a lot of sentimental value. The goal wasn’t to create a show car overnight, but rather to carefully bring some life back into a well loved classic while preserving its character and originality.
A lot of time was spent focusing on the finer details that often get overlooked. Multiple components were removed, restored and refinished including various screws, nuts, the shifter, handbrake assembly and seat trims to freshen up areas that had shown their age over the decades.
The wheel arches were thoroughly cleaned, re-blacked and sealed to restore a factory fresh appearance, while the interior received a careful rejuvenation. Working with the original carpets presented its challenges, but we achieved the best possible result while maintaining the vehicle’s authenticity.
The paintwork underwent a comprehensive multi-stage correction process, including targeted wet sanding to reduce defects and improve overall clarity. Once the maximum safe level of correction was achieved, the paint was protected with our premium Kraken Graphene Ti coating, adding gloss, protection and making future maintenance significantly easier.
It’s always rewarding being trusted with vehicles that have been part of a family for generations. Seeing this Datsun regain some of its former glory while retaining the character it’s built over 40+ years made this one a particularly special project.
