May 9th at Toowoomba is the QSRAs Jimmy Holden 50 lapper , the last Qlder to have won an Australian title way back in 1984 , and 1 of only 4 Qlders to have achieved this . This prestigious event attracts many interstaters to challenge our locals , and this year in no different, with two international drivers coming from NZ , Hayden Williams on his first visit to the speedbowl piloting the N5 Andy Hassen “piecart”. And Travis Buckley from the BSL stable . The A1 of Kaidon brown will definitely be trying to make up for not finishing the Sydney 50 , as well as no fewer than at least another 8 NSW cars , last years highest point scorer Mitch Saunderson will be one of them , and the Geering brothers who have been in great form as of late . Then there’s 3 Victorians making the trip , Aust no2 Nick Parker and Aust 3 Aston Rodriguez and Travis mills coming to do some reconnaissance work before the Australian title here in March next year .
Our local hero and winner of the Sydney 50 , Harry Stewart , coming of a win at our last local show will be the one to catch . As well as those O’Connell characters in the Millo Motorsport cars , Scott Farmer and Rusty Whittaker will be sure to be in the mix . There’s plenty of other local talent stepping up to the plate happy to do a Steve Bradbury if it all goes pair shape for the guys coming from the back in the “school boy draw” format , this will be one exciting race , so make sure you get out and watch it live , or grab it on clayperview

🏁 A PIECE OF SPEEDCAR HISTORY IS COMING TO KINGAROY 🏁

Next season, Ian Boettcher Race Parts Kingaroy Speedway will host the 82nd Queensland Speedcar Title on Saturday 13th of March 2027.

This is a major moment for our club.

The Queensland Speedcar Title is one of the great events in our sport, and to bring the 82nd running of it to Kingaroy is something we’re incredibly proud of.

With the event falling the week after the Australian Speedcar Title in Toowoomba, there is already talk of interstate, USA and New Zealand drivers making the trip to Kingaroy.

That gives this meeting the potential to be something very special.

For our club, our town and our supporters, this is the sort of event that puts Kingaroy firmly in the conversation.

There are also sponsorship packages now available for businesses wanting to be part of this event and gain strong exposure in the lead-up and on race night.

This is not just another race meeting.
This is history coming to Kingaroy.

MICHAEL KENDALL

When Michael Kendall moved from New Zealand to Australia about 15 years ago, he already had an impressive racing resume and had nothing to prove. Five NZ national titles, including four consecutive, second in the 2000 Australian Title behind the late great Michael Figliomeni at Bacchus Marsh as well as representing his country in international competition. He had also raced extensively in the USA.

What were his plans in Australia? Well, Michael Kendall is a racer through and through and if there was a car available, he was ready to drive it. He soon picked up a feature win driving one of the Dean’s cars and then teamed with Colin Davies for some meetings. He next joined with fellow Kiwi Dwayne Neilson and that was the beginning of an amazing run of success.

Between 2012 and 2016 he won the Polar Ice Midget Series at Archerfield four times and also collected the QSRA Club Championship for the same seasons. During that time, he won the Danny Davidson Memorial on four occasions and the Queensland Championship in 2014.

After a very successful 2015-16 season Michael stepped away from racing to do other things, but his desire to race didn’t go away. At the end of 2020 he had a great opportunity to drive for Ian Boettcher. Boettcher was known for his sedan car team but before sedans he owned a speedcar and he was now keen to give speedcars another go. It only took Michael a meeting or two and he was back in the winner’s circle. He won the TFH Midget Series at Archerfield for the 2021 – 22 season, as well as a couple more Club Championships.

Michael didn’t confine himself to speedcars and if he was offered a drive in something else was keen to give it a go. When the Modlites held their first Queensland Championship in 2012, Michael Kendall’s name would go on the winner’s trophy. He also raced a Compact and finished second behind Bodie Smith in the 2012 Queensland Championship.

Michael Kendall has decided to go back to New Zealand to be closer to his aging father who has some health issues. During his time in Queensland, he amassed 40 speedcar feature race wins and collected numerous trophies. His professionalism and ability raised the standard of racing in Brisbane and many drivers learnt by racing against him. Without any doubt he was the master of a slick track. Even though he is heading home, he has not closed the door on racing and if the right opportunity arose, he would probably give it a shot.

Michael Kendall, on behalf of the Queensland Speedcar Racing Association and all speedcar fans, we wish you all the best for your future endeavours.
