South Passage run out on Sunday 27/09/26. I’ve split the video into 3 sections. Bar was breaking right out the back a little bit hard to see in the video. Big run in tide had the shingles pumping out the front, personally this is why I don’t enjoy incoming tide on this bar. A few boats were put off by this and I don’t blame them, the big Grady White we passed was a good example of the sea state, but a positive is there wasn’t many boats out even though the conditions were prime once you were out!

South Passage on a run out tide 26/09/28. I enjoy midday crossings with the sun nice and high. Very easy to see where you need to go and where the channels are shifting.

Back to regular programming! Today I was at our Cleveland location for boat and JetSki licences, whilst Coach Dave was down at Southport location running some boat only licences!

Bit of a different job today. Towed a 28ft Robert’s Longboat from lamb island down to horizon shores. The bonito 660 is not only a charter boat but a tow boat as well 😂

South Passage Northern Channel at bottom of low tide. Saw 1.6m UKC. Bank extends a long way north, there is really no good channel out at the moment, luckily swell was down. As mentioned in previous post timing this channel is a little more important.

South Passage Bar Crossing Course from last weekend. This video was taken from the northern channel. Client got all the way through by himself, this channel is significantly shorter than the standard Amity Crossing however does involve a little more timing in my opinion. All students this day demonstrated great throttle control, timing and ability to interpret waves.

South Passage Bar Crossing 23/08/26 during a Brisbane Sportfishing charter. Chasing down Fsho78. Incoming tide always creates a bit of pressure in the bar even though conditions were prime. I always prefer run out tide, it really smooths the bar out.

First practical block done for Certificate II Maritime Operations. I have definitely learnt a lot and can’t wait to improve my practices for next time.
