How does AEB work?

A Nissan Qashqai Rear Camera Calibration.

Yes you read that right!

Nissan (along with some VAG and Mercedes to say a few) actually use the rear camera for more then just allowing the driver to see behind them while reversing.

They are used to give functions such as blind spot warning or lane changing assist, Distance warning for backing up and Cross traffic alerts for revesing out onto a road way, where the vehicle will brake automatically if it senses oncoming traffic or people.

• Camera calibration helps the car understand where the sensor is pointing, so that the car's software can match what the sensor "sees" to the real world. If a sensor isn't aligned with the driving direction of the vehicle, an object directly in front of the sensor won't be directly in front of the car.
