This customer came to us for a routine outboard service, along with an intermittent starting fault and issues with the trim system.
During our diagnostic testing, we identified an intermittent 6V through the hull, indicating an unwanted electrical path. This was contributing to the starting fault and had resulted in electrolysis damage to the trim unit.
We replaced the damaged trim motor, installed a new battery switch and replaced the associated battery cables to rectify the underlying electrical fault.
Had we not identified and rectified the 6V fault, the stray current would have continued to cause electrolysis through the hull, potentially damaging the new trim motor and engine.
With the electrical system corrected and the trim system restored, the vessel is back in reliable working order and ready to get back on the water. ⚓️🌊
