Two campervans, same battery size.
One cruises coastal Queensland at 90km/h with light gear and comfortably hits 420km. The other loads up for an outback run in 38-degree heat and plans for 310km.
Both numbers are correct. Both are worth knowing before you lock in a platform.
Range is the first question almost every EV campervan buyer asks. The spec-sheet number is a starting point.
Five real-world factors shape your touring range in Australia:
⚡ Speed. Sitting on 110km/h uses noticeably more energy than 90km/h. Highway cruising is where range drops fastest.
Weight and fitout. Every kilo of build, water, gear and passengers changes the maths. A heavy touring layout works harder than a light weekender.
Temperature and AC. 38-degree days with the aircon working, or cold mornings with cabin heating, both pull from the same battery.
Terrain and elevation. Climbing the Great Dividing Range is different from flat runs across the Hay Plain. Regen helps on the way back down.
Charging network on your route. Real range is about the gap between chargers. Chargefox, Evie and NRMA sites shape what a realistic day looks like.
Together, these can shift real-world range by 20–30%. That is why we don't hand buyers a single number and call it done.
At AdventureEV, we build around how you actually travel. Coastal weekends and outback touring are different jobs, and the right battery platform depends on the roads you drive, the load you carry, and the network you rely on.
Our 2026 Supervan program is built on a 106kWh battery platform with a 400km+ target range, designed around those five factors from day one.
If you're thinking about a custom electric campervan, now is the time to start the conversation.
