About Tiger Rag - Retro Inspired Clothing
Sue developed a love of sewing since her mother gave her a reconditioned sewing machine when she was about 15 years old. Greg had a love of restoring old cars and also came from the dancing scene, having taught rockabilly in Canberra. When we met, we decided to learn Hollywood Swing together and found we both liked the whole retro scene which included the
vintage clothing of the swing era. Due to a rareness of good quality vintage clothing (50 years is a long time for a shirt, trousers or dress to hang together and still stay like new), Satchmo5 was born. Louis Armstrong, the great trumpet player, was from the swing era. We thought the name appropriate for a line of clothing that is reminiscent of that time. (One day we might tell you about the 5). We joined forces and, with very little funds, grabbed the bull by the horns to create quality clothing with the feel of the 1940/1950 era and set up our first shop in Stones Corner, Brisbane in 2004. Over the first year, we gradually built up a steady clientele from all walks of life, many becoming regular customers and many becoming good friends. In 2006, we moved to Fortitude Valley with our new name TIGER RAG. Fortiude Valley attracts more of the funky people that love our type of designs. Our clientele naturally increased. People were coming in to our shop exclaiming what unique and great gear we had. We hope we can continue to create great gear for you all to discover. Our own brand is made right here in a Brisbane factory so that we can keep control of the whole process. We have regular clients all over Australia and have sold overseas.
