Sticking to your vehicle's service schedule

Sticking to your vehicle's service schedule is crucial for several reasons, all of which contribute to the longevity, safety and efficiency of your car. Here's why:

1. Prevents major mechanical issues
- Regular maintenance ensures that small problems are identified and addressed before they turn into expensive, major repairs. For example, routine oil changes prevent engine wear, and replacing worn out belts can prevent them from snapping which can cause engine failure.

2. Improves vehicle performance
- Well-maintained cars run smoother and more efficiently. Regular servicing helps maintain optimal performance by ensuring that key components like the engine, transmission and suspension are in good working condition, resulting in better acceleration, handling and fuel efficiency.

3. Increases the lifespan of the vehicle
- Following the recommended service schedule helps extend the lifespan of your vehicle. Well-maintained cars are more reliable and last longer because routine care such as checking fluid levels, tyre pressure and air filters prevents wear and tear.

4. Maintains safety
- A regularly serviced vehicle is safer to drive. Servicing includes inspecting crucial safety systems like brakes, suspension, steering and tyres. These systems need to function properly to ensure you have maximum control of your vehicle and can stop safely in emergencies.

5. Reduces the risk of breakdowns
- Regular servicing reduces the likelihood of unexpected breakdowns which can be costly and inconvenient. Preventative maintenance addresses potential issues before they cause an issue on the road.

Whilst having a 4WD is fun and can take us places. Proper engine care is vital.

As you can see on this Prado, sand contamination has eaten away at the front crank seal. This repair could have been avoided with proper vehicle care in relation to thorough washing after beach driving.

It is important that you hose off and clean the engine bay, undercarriage and drivetrain of the vehicle after driving on the beach as sand for longevity of the vehicle's vital components.

This week we had an Audi RS5 at DTO Mechanical T/a Port Carbon Clean. This was routine maintenance for this vehicle and the customer opted for our EFI injector service and testing. As you can see in the photos, the vehicle was due for a clean. There was excessive carbon built up on the back of the intake valves and tips of the injectors. After a good clean out on the intake valves with walnuts, the vehicle is back to full factory power and running like new again.

On direct injection petrol vehicles, big companies like Audi and BMW use this procedure as part of logbook servicing in countries like Germany and America.

If you feel like your vehicle is losing power or not idling smoothly anymore. Give our team a call on (07) 3150 3048.

This week we had a Jeep Grand Cherokee in all the way from Bundaberg!

The customer was concerned of the dreaded valley hose which the Grand Cherokees are notorious for and upon removal of manifold he was rightfully so as the hose was split. Unfortunately, the manifold gearing was broken as well. After our walnut procedure and rectifying the above issues, the vehicle is driving again, like new.

We recommend this procedure on the Grand Cherokee’s every 60,000-80,000kms to avoid costly manifold replacements. If you have a Grand Cherokee and want to get your intake manifold and ports cleaned. Get in contact with our workshop on (07) 3150 3048 or send us a message on facebook.

DPF cleaning is essential for maintaining vehicle performance, efficiency and environmental compliance. It can save you from costly repairs and ensures your diesel vehicle runs smoothly.

Other benefits from a DPF clean include:
- Reduces emissions
- Maintains engine performance
- Prevents damage
- Improves fuel efficiency
- Extends DPF lifespan
- Enhances regeneration process
- Avoids warning lights and performance issues

You can see in the video of this 2019 Isuzu D-Max there are carbon deposits still present after manufactures way to carry out automatic DPF regeneration. In this scenario it is either replace DPF unit which is $5k+ or manually clean the DPF off the vehicle and bring it back to near new. After this procedure the DPF is re-initialised in vehicle as now DPF pressures are where required.

If you would like to know more about having the DPF in your vehicle cleaned or get an estimate. Give us a call on (07) 3150 3048 or send us a message on facebook.

Have you noticed that your car has dropped in fuel economy? It may be possible that your intake manifold is due to be cleaned.

There are many benefits to getting your intake manifold walnut blasted:
- Improves engine efficiency
- Enhances fuel combustion
- Increases fuel efficiency
- Reduces emissions
- Prevents engine knocking
- Extends engine life
- Improves overall performance of your engine
- Improves cold starts
- Improves auto trans shift pattern

This week we had a Toyota Prado in for our carbon cleaning service on the intake manifold. As you can see there is excessive carbon on the manifold which is why the customer has noticed that his fuel economy had dropped and the vehicle was performing poorly. After blasting out all the carbon, it restores the manifold to near showroom condition, making the car run as smooth as when he first got it!

Normal operating conditions/ Adverse conditions. What is the difference?

Normal Operating Conditions.
A vehicle which is driven mostly on road, with minimal outback exposure. Driven under the recommended service kilometers between intervals. The vehicle does not tow heavy loads and is not put under stress.

Adverse Operating Conditions.
A vehicle which is driven on and off road. High outback exposure. Driven to service kilometers or over between services. The vehicle tows heavy loads consistent (ie. caravan). The vehicle is put under stress consistently (ie, Mountains, dirt roads, low range 4x4, Race track). The vehicle sits in heavy traffic often.

Pictured below is a rear differential out of a Pajero. This vehicle is a tow car which frequently tows a caravan. The differential exploded on the highway whilst towing due to getting to hot. The oil in the differential hadn't been replaced in several years causing bearing failure. It has blown the cast housing apart and the pinion is visible. This could have caused a serious accident for the occupants in the vehicle if it locked up the rear wheels under tow. Frequent oil changes could have prevented the differential to get to this state.

This week we were call out to a Volkswagen Tiguan. Customer advised vehicle has been sluggish for a period of time and has just started to over heat. Upon inspection found a code logged in the DTC data for the charger, the charger is activated by the water pump magnets. Pressurized the cooling system to find the water pump leaking/failed bearing.

We replaced the water pump on site, and the vehicle running again like new.
