A 6L45 transmission that has lost 1st gear and bangs back to first gear may have a problem with worn check balls in the valve body.

In this instance, the customer reported intermittent banging back to first gear followed by loss of 1st gear.

The solution involved removing and disassembling the valve body, cleaning and refitting it with updated check balls, replacing the filter and oil, and performing a transmission relearn procedure.

We present a 2020 Ford Ranger equipped with a 10R80 transmission that experienced the well-known issue of loss of drive.

Upon disassembly, the transmission pan was dropped, and the oil pump gear cover (identified by its pink color) was removed, revealing broken drive teeth. Further inspection after transmission removal confirmed that the drive gears had lost a significant number of teeth.

The solution involved replacing the oil pump drive gears, filter, pan gasket, and oil, followed by transmission reinstallation.

After clearing all codes, the drive functionality was restored.

Here at DC Mechanical and Driveline
this is why we ALWAYS replace rear brake wheel cylinders when doing rear brake shoes.

Heat and age deteriorate wheel cylinder rubber seals and brake fluid bypass cylinder seals.

This can cause leaks and contaminate brake shoes which can cause a less effective braking system.
