Enough of the fossil fuel sponsored histrionics from the Coaltion. Here's some perspective on Australian energy prices vs OECD neighbours

One of the primary arguments for the Coalition abandoning any Net Zero target is that renewables have made electricity prices unaffordable.

Not only is this inconsistent with CSIRO modelling which shows that renewable energy is already cheaper, but analysis from The Guardian has showm that Australia's electricity prices continue to be cheaper than most other industrialised nations, especially when adjusted for our higher overall wealth.

Prices have gone up in recent years, but this has been seen across the planet due to several geopolitical factors. We are part of a global economy, and so is our energy.

While it's not true that Australians will need to pay more for their electricity in order to limit the impacts of catastrophic climate change; if anyone actually can afford to pay more... it's us. If we say it's too expensive, too hard, and not worth it, how can we demand the substantially poorer people of China, India, and Indonesia to make sacrifices we won't?

Either you believe in science or you don't. We don't need to lead the world, we just don't want to be the ones holding the world back.

Now there's only one - South Australia's minimal operating reserve of fossil fuel based generated is reduced to just one generator - allowing for more renewable generation and firming through home and grid batteries

Grid security needs in South Australia reduced to a single fossil fuel generator. Soon, even that may not be required as state heads towards 100 pct net renewables.

Can coal, gas or nuclear do this?

Practically all of the NEM at zero or negative prices due to ample solar and wind in the grid today

A future of 200% renewables is a future of a zero marginal cost society where energy will be too cheap to meter.

Instead of a future of energy scarcity and focused on conservative, it’s a future of abundance for human flourishing and lifting billions out of poverty with polluting the climate, sky, water or lungs

Australia’s path to net zero must include a clear plan to phase down fossil fuel exports. Climate change doesn’t care where emissions occur — whether burned here or overseas, the atmosphere absorbs them just the same.

If we’re serious about meeting our climate commitments, we can’t keep approving new coal and gas projects as if exports exist in a separate moral universe. It’s time for our laws to catch up with the science.

One urgent step is to introduce a climate trigger into the Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation (EPBC) Act, so that the climate impact of new projects is a core consideration in approval decisions.

With international law increasingly recognising the rights of vulnerable nations to climate protection — especially in the Pacific — Australia has no excuse to lag behind. We must lead with integrity, not loopholes.

Australia’s gas addiction and position as one of the top-three fossil fuel exporters in the world is the stain on its potential climate legacy – and must be addressed.

Is the new Bunnings solar and battery product / subscription a good deal? Here's SolarQuotes's take on this interesting move, that no doubt will open the doors to even more battery installs.

Hardware giant Bunnings is backing a new brand offering solar energy and battery packages on a subscription basis. Here's what we know.

Just a reminder…

Gas isn’t just harmful to our climate – it’s damaging to our health as well.

Studies have shown that gas cooktops leak harmful toxins into your home, even when they are switched off.

Just another reason why we need to phase out polluting fossil fuels like gas, sooner rather than later.
