As stated in my previous post, today is the day that all the preparation to the inner surface of my cars body finally gets a coat of Satin Silver paint!
Since starting this process 5 months has passed so getting paint on the interior is extremely welcome progress!!!!

All the wet areas have now had a heavy application of Wurth rubberised stone guard applied.
Next step will be to spray a coating of Mipa Satin Silver onto the underside of all the bodies wet areas, making cleaning much easier.
Then after all the usual final preparations to the exterior, Adrian will apply several coats of Mipa opalescent flag blue , followed by a clear coat to protect the finish.
This is the colour the Scottish racing team “Ecurrie Ecosse” ran in 1957 when they won at Le Mans with car number 3.
I plan to have the roundels painted onto the car with the number 3 done in black vinyl.

Work continues on the D Type body, as previously mentioned Adrian ( the painter) has focused on the details making sure everything is perfect prior to painting.
Today the bonnet and rear body shell (underneath) have now been masked up and by the time of my writing, Adrian will have applied the body shutz to the wet areas.
I haven’t posted much lately because a lot of the work done recently is in the details, which doesn’t really make for interesting progress pictures.
Hopefully with the shutz now on and allowed to fully dry, the the satin silver paint can be then applied! that’s when I think I’ll be on the home stretch to completion, Inch by inch we are getting there!!!!

Work continues on the various body panels of the car with the doors being prepared and primed.
With these doors now done and ready for colour, the next thing is to apply shutz to all the wet areas and then a coat of satin silver.

While the D Type body shell off being prepared & painted, I’m focusing on other smaller things that still need attention.
In this instance I’m working on the tool box situated underneath the passenger seat.
Today I organised the various items to be carried and recessed them into the board so everything fits nicely!
I’ll finesse it further with abrasive paper
and when it looks right will complete it with flocking in either green or black. (Not sure what colour yet) the outside will be in gloss black.
I’ve also adjusted the door gaps so they are consistently 3.5mm, originally found the passenger side gap was too wide and the driver’s side too tight.

I’ve been working on this beautiful 1963 3.8ltr E Type Roadster for some time, having recently returned to me from the trimmer (Allan Smith Trimming)
Today it has been relocated to the owners warehouse where I will complete the car by refitting the engine & gearbox and then the final fit out of the interior trim and exhaust etc etc.
This car has been upgraded with the more effective later model E Type Ser.2 pedal box / booster & master brake setup.
Additionally the old starter motor has been replaced with a modern reduction drive starter motor and a Ser.1 Alternator replacing the ineffectual generator.
So the car will stop safely, charge efficiently and will have the fun that the 3.8 Engine delivers!!
